BATEXW

Bâtiments Exemplaires Wallonie

 Period

2013-2016

 Context

Today, building or renovating with very high energy and environmental quality is no longer a utopia. This model is becoming a very concrete reality in a very accessible economic framework. A real engine for the local economy and employment (Marshall Plan), the development of the sustainable construction sector also meets Europe's new requirements in terms of reducing greenhouse gas (CO2) emissions. A European directive on energy performance requires, by 2019 - 2021, the construction of buildings with virtually zero energy consumption for all Member States. Thus, to boost the sector, Wallonia launched a new call for projects designed to promote the construction of "exemplary buildings" in terms of energy and environmental performance. This competition is open to all owners who plan to build or renovate their building and to professionals working with building owners (architects and design offices).

 Objectives

The project aims to demonstrate that it is technically feasible and economically profitable (or close to profitability) to build and/or renovate exemplary buildings in Wallonia. Projects will be judged on the following criteria: 1. the highest energy performance Limiting energy demand (heating, cooling, lighting, ventilation and auxiliaries) and promoting the use of renewable energies in the most efficient way possible (solar thermal, photovoltaic, geothermal, biomass, etc.). 2. The lowest environmental impact Minimize the building's impact on the environment through efficient use of resources (choice of materials and construction techniques), water management and soft mobility. 3. Reproducibility and profitability of the solutions envisaged Choose solutions that are technically and economically justifiable so that the project can encourage other project owners to do the same in a relatively short time. 4. The architectural quality The coherence of the architectural solutions, the aesthetic success, the location of the building in a coherent urban ensemble and the quality of the living spaces will also be assessed, as well as the accessibility and adaptability for people with reduced mobility and the modularity of the building. The 40 best projects will receive financial assistance of 100€/m² and free technical support.

 Specific BEMS Tasks
