RCC/KN

Réseau de Chambres Climatiques | Klimalabor Netzwerk

 Period

2018-2020

 Context

To improve the energy performance of buildings and the components that determine it, experimental validations are essential. Laboratories dedicated to experimentation in this field exist in the Greater Region but have specialised in particular aspects of energy performance and have so far been working in isolation. The aim of the RCC/KN project is to connect laboratories within a network that involves the traditional aspects of exchange of experiences, practices or researchers but also aims at a physical connection between laboratories. The network will be based on the technique of emulation and remote connectivity in the form of a cross-border platform. This platform will increase the possibilities for experimentation and offer a solution to overcome certain investment problems and give research units greater visibility within the Greater Region.

 Objectives

The aim is to enhance research skills in the RG territory by pooling resources, both material and human. It would therefore be a question of developing a platform allowing the pooling of equipment/materials and infrastructures of research centres. The project aims to offer a solution to certain investment problems and also to offer certain research units greater visibility, in particular by highlighting the strengths available in terms of material resources. Each laboratory working on its own field of research could thus open doors to much broader fields of research. To achieve this objective, the project will capitalize on the emulation technique, a central concept in the shared platform shared by the different laboratories. The term "emulation" means the replacement of one system by another capable of reproducing the same behaviour. It would thus be possible to virtually link the physical installations and allow a "system" (building, HVAC, storage...) physically implanted in one place to be virtually connected and influenced by another system physically implanted in another place. The various project partners have at their disposal a test infrastructure: a laboratory building (BEMS) with a climatic chamber in Arlon, an Enerbat platform in Nancy, a Living Lab in Kaiserslautern and a test bench in Saarbrücken. Such a complete laboratory, allowing to scan so many levels in the energy theme of the building is a definite added value for the Greater Region. This laboratory would be both a research and demonstration platform. Such a context would further increase collaboration between regions and universities. The creation of such a network would open doors for each of the partner universities and strengthen the multidisciplinary approach.
